RIO World Capital of Architecture UNESCO.UIA is the title, designated by Unesco and the International Union of Architects, for the host city of the 27th World Congress of Architects. The designation of Rio de Janeiro as the first World Capital of Architecture UNESCO.UIA is not only a recognition for its architectural, historical and cultural past but also, and especially, an opportunity for reflection and future proposition of architectural culture, landscaping and urbanism and, consequently, cities, based on the evaluation and debates that will be based on the host city of the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA 2020 RIO. The program of the year RIO2020 World Capital of Architecture UNESCO.UIA is co-responsibility of City Hall and the Institute of Architects of Brazil and will be widely intertwined with the programming of the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA 2020 RIO.
Architecture, construction, housing, city, infrastructure, mobility, urbanism, culture, urban planning are subjects articulated to the general theme – All the Worlds. Just One World. Architecture 21. – that will be on the agenda of Congress and the World Capital. There will be a close tune between architects and urban planners, professionals related to the built enviroment, academics, social movements and society in general, promoting a broad and democratic debate about the city of the present and the future of cities.
