This
USAID sponsored, government to government programme was a
professionally rewarding and intellectually stimulating two-week study
visit that allowed participants to share key experiences with
US
colleagues in government, academia, and the private sector.
Procurement Policy and Monitoring Compliance was designed to boost
technical abilities and gather information that directly
assists
the attendees in running and developing strong procurement
policy. This experience intensive programme also helped
attendees
expand their knowledge of regulations for public procurement, help
improve and promote procurement practices, and help implement plans and
strategies.
The agenda for this two-week study visit specifically
addressed the stated objectives:
- Ensure
the application of fair, competitive, transparent, non-discriminatory
and value for money procurement standards and practices;
- Harmonize the procurement policies,
systems and practices of the Central Government, local governments and
statutory bodies;
- Set standards for the public procurement
systems;
- Monitor compliance of procuring entities;
and…
- In collaboration with relevant
professional bodies build procurement capacity.
